About Case & Space
Case & Space is a custom design company specializing in casework for the mid-to-high end residential market serving homeowners, interior designers, architects and contractors. Projects include kitchen and bath cabinetry, built-in furniture for living spaces, closets and wardrobes, and freestanding case furniture.
“I wanted to combine my lifelong interest in design and the creative arts with the logical and regimented project management skills I had developed from previous positions in the technology industry,”
said owner and designer, Amy Spencer.
In 2002, she began working with a general contracting company specializing in residential home remodels in Greenwich, CT. “It was here that I became comfortable working with all different types of customers, assisting them in everything from the creative process to managing the details of their projects through to completion.”
Since Amy loves to organize and has a fascination for furniture, she began designing and managing the fabrication of cabinetry and built-in furniture in 2003. “The true inspiration came from an interest in furniture styles, construction methods and the historical and cultural events that influenced those styles.” This was the motivation behind her passion and the creation of Case & Space.
In 2004, after feeling the urge to return to Northern California, Amy relocated her business to San Francisco. Since styles and construction methods vary from east to west coast, Amy has the unique ability to move between both traditional and modern woodworking methods.
Today Amy continues to design and work in the Bay Area. Although she does not personally construct her own pieces, she has hand selected her team of craftsmen, fabricators and installers to create custom pieces that are both beautiful and practical. She still enjoys working in the shop, taking woodworking classes, conserving 18th century furniture and studying Italian furniture styles in Florence, Italy. She is familiar with cutting edge materials, construction styles, modern and traditional woodworking methods, hardware and finishes.
